As is customary for FIFA events, the host nation Qatar was present to officially kick off the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Enner Valencia of Ecuador, who scored twice to lift La Tri to victory, was the man to steal the show. Ecuador gained all three points from the 2-0 victory, which propelled them to the top of Group A early on.
As a result, Qatar lost its opening match for the first time as a World Cup host country. With his team eliminated in the group round, head coach Felix Sanchez cut a disgruntled figure on the sidelines the whole game. He will attempt to recover for the remainder of the competition.

Qatar vs. Ecuador Match Highlights
Ecuador came out at Al Bayt Stadium with strong determination from the first whistle, setting the tone for an intense battle. Three minutes into the game, Enner Valencia thought he had the game’s first goal, but VAR disallowed it for offside.
But do not worry; Valencia would get his goal just 13 minutes later when Michael Estrada brilliantly broke through the defense to put him through on goal. Saad Al Sheeb, the goalkeeper for Qatar, was off his line when Valencia was struck, resulting in a penalty.
Valencia would make a move and give Ecuador the lead.
Valencia scored his second goal of the match soon beyond the half-hour mark, heading in a cross from full-back Angelo Preciado to give La Tri the lead.
The seasoned attacker would receive several heavy fouls and required medical attention soon before halftime. The Ecuadorian supporters sang to their goal scorer while he was receiving medical attention.
Almoez Ali had the last chance of the first half, shortly before the interval, to become Qatar’s all-time leading scorer. Ali is entirely unmarked when Al Haydos rifles a cross from the right flank, but his glancing header misses the target. He’ll want to relive that same moment.
The hosts had very little time in the game, and despite their best efforts to claw their way back in, they were unable to score. Recently, substitute Mohammed Muntari came close to making a memorable moment, but his shot went over the crossbar. If it had gone in, it would have been a strong candidate for Goal of the Tournament.
